Discovering my niche in a niche filled world has led me to discover myself in the process. Every blogger out there has said consistently to find your niche, one that you are passionate about and put your spin on it even if your niche is flooded with bloggers. As I mentioned before in my post “Blogging Is Easy?” finding a niche is important to the cohesiveness of your blog and writing. So this past month I have been writing, reading and listening to every course, blogger, and tutorial I can get my hands on and finally listening to myself as I write what comes naturally to me. Discovering my niche really is discovering myself. Who is Carrie Myers? What am I passionate about? What do I want to write about that will make me continue writing? Why do I write? Why did I really start this blog? Have my goals changed, altered a bit?
Who Am I?
I am a 50-year-old woman who will be 51 in 2 months. I am divorced with 3 sons. My oldest lives with his girlfriend in a duplex with their two dogs, he is in the national guard and has a full-time job and is working towards his bachelor’s degree in Informational Technologies. He will be getting married next August. My middle son is a sophomore in college, has a steady girlfriend and is studying to be an athletic trainer and my youngest is a sophomore in high school playing varsity football and is my fisherman/hunter of the three. I’m very proud of all three they have matured into fine young men.
Very much in love with a man who has made me realize what it truly feels to have a true partner in life. I found him at the age of 41 and have never looked back. We may have a few bumps and scrapes but there are much more smiles than frowns.
Working as a parapro reading specialist who helps middle schoolers improve their reading skills. I have been in education for 13 years starting with preschoolers and now helping with the 5th and 6th graders.
Living in a fixer upper of all fixer uppers and we are remodeling our way through each and every room. I mean each and every room and even added two more rooms to our house.
Love taking photographs, creating memories on Shutterfly, framing all my photos of family and friends. To me, every room in the house needs a photograph hanging up on a wall or framed on a shelf.
I love, love football been watching since I was a little girl and now I reign supreme in Fantasy Football for the past 10 years.
As you know if you’ve been perusing through the blog I love drinking wine. I collect wine stoppers, antique corkscrews, the boyfriend and I go to wineries and wine festivals all over Michigan. Hell, I love looking at wine labels on the bottles they are so artistic and creative.
Menopause hit me about a year ago and is now part of my life. So dealing with the weight gain and hot flashes have become who I am.
I have lots of friends who live by me, downstate from me and now blogging has introduced me to many more.
Finally, I am a woman who has found her love for writing again. As a child and teenager, I wrote countless stories, poems, and plays but when my twenties hit I lost my appetite for it and stopped. Writing has become a great outlet for me to release all the thoughts and musings going on in my brain. I started this blog to start writing again and have been loving it. I want my writing to resonate with my readers and I can pass onto them what I’m truly passionate about.
What Is My Niche?
Mid Life Blogging: offering tips, resources, help promote other bloggers. Blogging isn’t a snap of the fingers. The technical aspect can bog anyone but I feel for my age bracket it may be more challenging and daunting than for the younger bloggers who have grown up with a lot more technical experience.
A Woman hitting her Mid-life Stride: The empty nester, physical and emotional changes, relationships with family, friends significant others. Have the goals and dreams changed since becoming older?
Wine World: I want to learn more about wine and I want to impart what I have learned and what I am continually learning.
Writing: not just for blogging but short stories, writing for magazines, how to make writing a full-time occupation.
My niches can change just as I change but I feel more resolute on what I would like to write about and give to my readers.
The Sweet Spot
My blog goal?
Maneuver myself through the piles of self doubt, worry and anxiety about this blog until I hit the sweet spot. What is the sweet spot? Having a profitable, engaging, helpful, high quality blog that resonates with readers like myself and gives me joy everyday. That’s my Sweet Spot!
So these past few months have helped me discover myself and discover my niches and the journey continues. Can you stay with me on the journey and see where it takes me? How did you find your niche? Or are you still on the Journey? Let me know in the comments below!
