Menage a Trois Winery is located in Napa, California. Their red blends are similar to the Apothic Red blend wines I reviewed previously. I first took notice of Menage a Trois California Red Blend when I was out shopping for groceries. Yes, the name caught my eye! As you may know, SEX from L. Mawby Vineyards located in Suttons Bay is a favorite as well. Hmm what does that say about me?
I purchased a bottle of the Menage a Trois California Red Blend and the BF and I both enjoyed drinking it one night after a long day of work. Now we have ventured to their other three red blends Midnight, Silk and a new one named Decadent. I decided to do a tasting with all of them to see which one I liked the best or if all four would rank up high.

First, the original Menage a Trois California Red Blend. This wine is a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vintage was 2014 and it had a 13.7% alcohol content.
See: A cranberry red color
Swirl: Still unsteady with that. I’m still practicing.
Smell/Sniff: Blackberries and black currant
Sip/Swish: I’ve been practicing my swish after watching Madeline Puckett creator of the Wine Folly blog. She swishes it like its mouthwash tasting every nuance of flavor. The flavors of blackberries were the most significant for me.
Savor/Swallow: A short finish nothing spectacular for me.
Menage a Trois Silk is a blend of Pinot Noir, Malbec, and Petite Sirah. Since this wine had Malbec in it I was expecting a spicy or bitter taste. A bite to it I guess you would say. The vintage again 2014 and 13.7% alcohol content.
See: A deeper red
Swirl: Working on it.
Smell/Sniff: I smelled cherries which I read is from the Noir. No spicy or bitter smell.
Sip/Swish: a little bit of cherry, really didn’t taste any spiciness
Savor/Swallow: A short finish.
Menage A Trois Midnight is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. I have not had either Petit Verdot nor Petite Sirah on it’s own so wasn’t sure what flavors I would be tasting. Vintage 2014 and 13.8% alcohol content.
See: a deep purple color
Swirl: Just keep swirling, just keep swirling
Smell/Sniff: blackberries, mocha
Sip/Swish: Mmmm, definitely blackberries, mocha, plums
Savor/Swallow: smooth, full bodied, flavorful long finish.
Menage A Trois Decadence is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Sirah. The fact sheet from the site states its 84% Cabernet Sauvignon. To me not much of a blend. Vintage 2015 and 13.8% alcohol content.
See: dark ruby red color
Swirl: Swirl away
Sip/Swish: I smelled mint which I have learned can be found in Cabernet Sauvignon.
Savor/Swallow: Blackberries and mint again. Not a long finish again and I really tasted the alcohol.
For me Menage a Trois Midnight is my favorite. I really like a long finish and the wine is smooth, supple, velvety in texture.
